INTRODUCTION/PREAMBLE
The Parish of St Augustine's in Kyabram was in the
care of the Augustinians for over 100 years. Visits by priests began
around 1875 and the first church, St Monica's, was built at present-day
Ky West in 1878. From 1886, Augustinians from Echuca ministered in the
area until the parish, which includes St Sebastian's, Merrigum and St
Patrick's, Tongala, was established in 1903. Today, the Parish has two
schools, St Augustine's P-10 in Kyabram and St Patrick's Primary in
Tongala, both conducted for many years by the Brigidine Sisters. The
Parish Community is very proud of the renovated and extended St Augustine's
Church which was dedicated in 2000 and which lends itself to liturgical
celebration.
As
of 01/02/2006 the Augustinians withdrew from the Parish and Fr Michael
Morley is now Parish Priest of Kyabram and Tatura. The Parish is now
a Diocesan Parish.
OUR VISION
As a Community, we believe that Kyabram Catholic Parish
is a place where
We experience a sense of belonging and genuine welcome;
We are inspired to work together and bring forth the Reign
of God;
We are enriched by the Augustinian values of community life, friendship
and mutual love;
We enjoy equality of dignity by virtue of our common baptism;
We are committed to justice and service of others in response to the
teaching of Jesus in the Gospel.
OUR MISSION
Therefore, we are committed to
Building Community - through
| |
Valuing the gifts of each member of our community, using our talents
in the service of others, and promoting participation in parish
groups;
Enjoying one another's company through shared social
activities;
Reaching out to all those in need and recognising
that they are at the heart of our ministry;
Fostering a sense of Christian community, love of
learning, and growth in faith in our Catholic schools;
Working for Christian unity through ecumenical activities;
Exploring interfaith dialogue. |
Enriching Liturgy - through
| |
Encouraging 'full, conscious and active participation' when we assemble
for worship;
Expressing our Christian identity through celebration
of the Eucharist and the other sacraments in an inclusive and life-giving
way;
Providing a variety of opportunities for prayer that
nourish our personal and communal spirituality. |
Faith Formation - through
|
Encouraging all to grow in understanding of their faith, and their
personal spirituality and relationship with God;
Offering programs that support each person at every
stage of their faith journey, particularly through sacramental preparation,
adult faith formation, scripture study, spirituality, and social
justice awareness. |
Collaborative Ministry - through
| |
Encouraging people to work together and develop a team approach
to ministry;
Fostering 'shared wisdom' through the leadership of
the Parish Pastoral Council. |
